Active Directory and Windows 2000

With the new version of Windows 2000, a number of new concepts and technologies are introduced. Basically, the concepts of the processes implemented with UserManagemeNT remain unchanged. It is therefor that the basic ideas and principles behind the functionality of UserManagemeNT still hold: with just a few mouse clicks, any user with little or no knowledge of Windows 2000/NT can create new user accounts, change passwords and so on. To make things even easier, the different windows in UserManagemeNT have not changed significantly although the UserManagemeNT application can now fully operate and make use of Windows 2000 and the Active Directory.

You can use UserManagemeNT on Windows 2000 in mixed and native mode, with the combination of Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000. This is also true for the UserManagemeNT Delegation service. So now you can create user accounts in the Active Directory from a Windows 9x workstation using UserManagemeNT Delegation!

Starting from version 5.0, UserManagemeNT supports Windows 2000 and Active Directory. All UserManagemeNT applications (user interface, delegation service, and command line interface) run on both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. Further, UserManagemeNT can fully make use of the benefits of the Active Directory. You can for instance create new user accounts in domains or organizational units. See Specify domains and users to manage for more information.

Further, you can specify all attributes for new user accounts that are supported by the Active Directory. For this purpose, an extra window is introduced: User attributes and properties. See User attributes and properties for more information.
