HR / SIS to Active Directory Integration

Every organization faces the challenge of updating user information in Active Directory on a regular basis. When an employee is hired, fired or moved to a different position/department, those changes need to be reflected in other systems, such as Active Directory. Since the Human Resources department usually is the primary contact for these changes, it creates a cascading series of updates that must be pushed out to other departments and/or information systems. Performing these changes manually can be time consuming and difficult to maintain if there are a frequent number of changes.

Most all HR/SIS software stores employee information in an SQL database giving other applications an interface to connect and retrieve this information. The User Management Resource Administrator can connect to this database and provide a means for synchronizing this information to and from other information systems, primarily Active Directory. Since personnel changes require updates to Active Directory, then those changes are propagated to other systems, such as Exchange address lists, the connection between the HR/SIS system and Active Directory can be automated. Updates made by HR will be detected automatically and sent out to Active Directory in the background eliminating any human intervention. This can save your IT department many hours of work relating to managing information changes, and allow them to maintain other areas of the network.

Implementing an HR/SIS to Active Directory connector with User Management Resource Administrator can bring the following benefits to your organization:

  • Reduced down-time for new hires as user accounts with resources are created automatically
  • Automatic change processing for informational updates (phone numbers, office locations, titles, etc.)
  • Enforcement of company policies for termination (automatically disable AD user on termination from HR)
  • Eliminate manual hand-off from HR to IT requiring an admin to manually update Active Directory, saving time and reducing errors
  • Create a detailed audit log of all changes made by automated connector to show it performing updates correctly
