Move Organizational Unit Assignments

The User Management Resource Administrator ability to mass create and update user accounts makes it the ideal migration companion instead of traditional scripting solutions. The flexibility offered by our visual scripting engine, but without requiring script development and maintenance, makes User Management Resource Administrator far more attractive than any migration solution on the market available today.

Organizational Unit structures are the cornerstone of a successful and manageable Active Directory environment. Organizational Units are a major step forward in making management easier, mainly due to the ability to link GPOs (Group Policy Objects) to them. Group Policies can define any security, computer or applications related setting and propagate this automatically onto the contents of the Organizational Unit.

When working with CSV based input, you are usually working with either one of the following columns: Location, Department, Job type, Student class code or something equivalent. While the CSV file doesn't contain the information how to map a location onto the Active Directory, User Management Resource Administrator is the bridge between the CSV and the Active Directory. For instance, you can create the following links. Note that you can combine any type of link listed below with any type of input in your CSV file:

  • Location: contains 3 different locations in the CSV column (New York, Washington and Houston). When the location is New York, you may want to define a Global Catalog as domain controller to create the user account, a local file server to store the home directory and an Exchange server to store the mailbox. User Management Resource Administrator can create mappings between variables, so that you can assign a Location named "New York" to a script label where the local-specific settings for the user are applied.
  • Department - Student class: let's say you have departments in your CSV like Sales, Development and Marketing. When the department is Sales, you may want to create the user inside a specific Organizational Unit called Employees/Sales. User Management Resource Administrator lets you map the Department input directly onto an Organizational Unit location.
  • Job type: based on the job type, you may want to assign different security group memberships to the new user accounts. This can be done easily by mapping the job types on single or multiple groups.
