SQL Database:

MonitorMagic can use a database for different purposes: graphs, historical data, reports and so on. A network administrator can run MonitorMagic with and without using a database. A database is required when you want to use the following functionality of MonitorMagic:

  • Graphs showing historical data.
  • Archived event log historical data.
  • Most reporting functionality
  • Trending and analysis.
MonitorMagic supports different types of databases: MS Access (Jet-engine) and SQL Server. The database can reside on the same computer as the MonitorMagic service or it can be installed on a remote computer. MonitorMagic always uses a system data source to access the database. MonitorMagic can create the system data source automatically. The database setup procedure is simple and straightforward. During the database setup, MonitorMagic can create the database or connect to an existing database.

Event Log Archive:

MonitorMagic supports event log archiving of Windows 2003, 2000, and NT servers for statistical and historical reporting usage.

Example: Archive the Application, System, and Security event logs for all your critical Windows 2003 servers. With one single MonitorMagic service you can archive your Windows 2003 servers event logs to a single SQL database with out installing an agent or service on any of the Windows 2003 servers.

Example Reports: With a SQL database populated with your archived event logs you can now run detailed reports, server error events, security events, user logon times, server reboots, and much more. These reports can also be sent automatically using the MonitorMagic email distribution mechanism.

2D + 3D Graphs:

MonitorMagic supports fully customizable high-quality 2D and 3D graphs. Advanced graphing technology allows network administrators to generate historical or real time 3D graphs for reports.

Example: MonitorMagic can monitor the C drive space on all your Windows 2003 servers. When MonitorMagic pulls the data for size of the C drive it can log the data value into a SQL database. With the data value in the database MonitorMagic can run 3D graphs on the historical data values.
